Dilly

Meet Dilly

Anyone who has seen this site will know that I try to use unusual light sources. This time it was my monitor. I had eight attempts at this, I had major problems with the light from the monitor completely overtaking the the subjects face, so this one was captured with 2 x ND 8 soft grads angled on the side to reduce the monitor light while retaining the light in the face. I'm on a bit of an anti digital grain thing at the moment so a Big credit to Dilly for staying perfectly still for 3 seconds during capture so I could stay at iso400. The image is very dark, so to reduce the light from the monitor I put a previous crap version of this image on the computer, hence the double scene.

PP work : 3 layers with selective curves and toning, general sharpening.

I'm off to Scotland either tomorrow or saturday for several days to see my parents, so may not get round to replies and comments etc.

All the best Mal.

nice gentle shot mal. very nice concept with the multi images. did turning down the monitor brightness help.
Mal: Funny you mention that Nev! It was a pay off between Dilly staying still long enough to take the shot on iso400 on the tripod or my inability to focus on the scene in low light while slightly tipsy. Mal

I see a Mal-style growing out of all your portrait shots smile You've got it in this shot -- conversion (sepia), composition and creativity. The dots below the screen and the screen itself reflect the creativity you implement in your shots.

ps. have a lovely scottish weekend!
Mal: Hey Mia, Thank you so much for the lovely comments. I like the way you look at a shot and think about it! I had a lovely weekend with the parents but they feed me too much!!! All the best. Mal

Mal: Hey Sorcha, Thank you, a comment like engaging means alot to me! Mal

I see a Mal Portrait signature thing going on here. I'll play a game tomorrow when I visit shutterchance and try to identify a portait by you (assuming you post another) from the scrolling images displayed. I have also noticed the word tipsy in your reply to some comments - does it help being tipsy to take these beautiful shots? wink I think I'll try this technique some time - LOL. Nice work
Mal: Hey Christophe, I must admit that most pre-posed portrait style images are captured after a glass of wine! I find that it helps me ask of the model what I want and help the model give what I want! If you know what I mean! Mal
This is a very ingenious technique for a portrait. Well worked through. As has been said a bit of a style developing here. Pretty lassie. I am half Scottish, I thought there was some common blood. Where in Scotland are you from? Have a good visit and a dram for me.
Mal: Looks like we have some common ground Digi! I was born in Glasgow however, my parents now live in Crieff (the gateway to the highlands). I'm home now so can have a dram of my favourite Laphroaig 12. Mal

You catch good emotions Mal! this picture is really amazing ! I guess you're very good to let your models feel very comfortable!
Mal: Hey Frederic, I just try to bore them so much that they want to get away and therefore will do anything that I want them to do. I can not believe that nobody got the birthday thing!!!!!. Mal

That's certainly an interesting perspective that you turned into a great picture. And you seem to have a model that's really devoted to the final picture. Congratulations to both!
