Blue Watch

Happy birthday Alison. x

I had a conversation with Neal regarding leaving an image untouched yesterday and I said I would post one today. Well this is Not it, I will post that on Thursday because it's another boring sunset shot. The main trick with this one is switching to "Tungsten" mode on the camera before the tungsten light overtakes the natural daylight, this gives the image the super saturated cold blue effect. It's a trick I employ regularly.

PS work. Gentle S curve and + 15% shift on the hue slider.

All silly comments welcome

All the best Mal

Happy Birthday Alison. Hope Mal at least forked out a couple of quid for a card. The pier looks like an out of control meccano set. I know you get really huge tides over there but is there any purpose for the pier. Do boats tie up at the end of it or is it just for photo types to take pictures of. i thought you only had one colour button on that thing mal, looks like you got 2.
Mal: I bought her dinner last night. Back in the victorian era they tried to create little holiday resorts all along the north east coast line to compete with Brighton and a few others on the south coast. Saltburn, Ravenscar, Whitley bay and a few others, they built big hotels and expected the tourists to flood in. But it never happened, they forgot to factor in that the weather is too cold and therefore the season too short, they were all massive failures. The peirs were built purely as an attraction, they have no intrinsic value in the practical scense. Mal
Thats's great shot, metallic blue... very nice.

Very nice Senior Mal, so after a little bit of math and few graphics, I think you may have 39 or 42 years old. Am I close ?
Mal: I am between those two figures you mention my friend. If you can guess my age and birth date by Friday, I will ship to you a bottle of my fav' Rioja! You can ask as may questions as you like but I will only answer yes or no! How about that for a challenge Senior Dafredo? So start thinking my friend. Mal

Love the colour and light, jury's out on the composition I'm afraid.

This is a well worked picture. I wouldn't worry too much about the jury.
Ohh god! this is superb work. I am stil trying to see the end of the bridge. smile Great DOF
Mal: Hee hee, they are still building it! wink Mal
You know it's not bad. I've played around with the white balance on the camera myself a few times but only for portraits. I must admit I'm not really liking the white that has appeared at the end of the pier.
Mal: All will be revealed tomorrow Jide wink Mal
Hi MISTER Smart!! excuse the pun, but this is a very cool shot!! I do have to agree with Jide about the end of the pier though. I like the wisp of mist at the start of the pier, it just adds that extra other worldly element. I have a cool filter mode on my camera, but can't seem to use it correctly, does it acheive the same as changing the white balance by changing the colour temp? Very well done Mal, now find a straight pier!! Regards as always, Neil.
Mal: Not sure about the cool filter on the DMC but I bet that it does the same job. Yes your right, it's all to do with the colour temp, this sort of shot only works when both light sources are about equal. I'm having the pier blown up after I have finished with it! wink All the best Neil. Mal

/makes note to try deliberate WB shifting in future. Nice pier, I like the fact that it's crooked. Or at least appears to be.

well, photosam took all my "wickeds" so i am left with:

home home home home home.

i want that be be my home. i would walk around and splat myself into the wet lovely sand. the sand would sink around me a bit, and i would look up onto the wood, sky and universe. it reminds me of heaven should be like, the seeping blue and the colours to share with me. Happy Birthday to your love.. Much niceness to you both!

~S.
Mal: Do you get home sick sometimes? Your use of words paints a picture every time. Alison is a very dear friend and we go way back. I have no "love" :-( Mal

Awesome.

Hi Mal I am not sure if I like the saturated blueness of this image. I think a more delicate hue would be more attractive. How about a 2:1 crop.

Daves link does not work because it has a spelling mistake in it!

Two salesmen stop at a small hotel and check in. It is being run by a little old lady who is very hard of hearing.
She says to the first one.."Where are you from?
"Saltburn-on-Sea," he says.
"Excuse, me, where?" she asks.
"SALTBURN!"
"WHERE?"
"SALT!! BURN!!"
He takes the salt off the table, shakes some into his hand and throws it onto the fire.
"SALT BURN!" he repeats.
"Oh, yes, " she nods.
Then she turns to the other salesman.
"Where are you from?"
"Cockermouth." he says.

Thats to make up for the comment wink
Mal: Comment of the day, hands down to Digi. Still laughing!! wink Mal
