Green Watch

Another boring Saltburn image.

Not much to say really, some curve work + USM only

Good times for a change

See the luck I've had can make a good man bad.

So please, please, please let me let me let me!

Let me get what I want this time!

Update : I'm in computer Hell at home and can not send or now recieve e-mail at all but shutter still works, so leave a message here rather than e-mail me at home.

All the best Mal

Panic on the beaches of Salturn. I wonder to myself. Could life ever been sane again with the saltburn pier being abducted by aliens. hey sue me. Beautiful light mal and how did you decide on 166 seconds.
Mal: I wanted the sea completely flat and carpet like, I also wanted ISO50, So took a test shot at ISO3200 @ f20 on A/priority which gave me 2.5 seconds exposure, then simply calculated down the ladder till it got to ISO50 and added a few seconds for good measure. Mal

Technically outstanding Mal. I'm a bit unsure about the composition though. As for the 166s, I imagine it was: whack it on ISO3200, and take shots 'til you get one you like (2.5s), multiply by 64 (2 to the power of 6 - for 6 stops of ISO reduction), that comes to 160s. Change to ISO 50, stick it on 'bulb', open the shutter and start counting. Then, if you're anything like me, when you get up above a couple of minutes, I'd get distracted and think 'how far have I got?' or 'what time did I want?'
Mal: Spot on Steve! I usually use pebbles on the floor 1 = iso50 2 = iso100 etc and then write in the sand next to the pebble as I double the exposure each time. My compositionis usually dodgy, just ask Simon & Digi. wink Mal

So I guess I am very close, you should be born in the beginning of April or the beginning of June.
So basically 30 possibilities !
1. I will go for April, 10th
2. June 2nd
3. April 5th
4. June 12th
5. April 1st

I will stop here for the day otherwise it will be too easy smile

whatever steve just said there:

"...like (2.5s), multiply by 64 (2 to the power of 6 - for 6 stops of ISO reduction), that comes to 160s. Change to ISO 50..."

does steve like it then?

my brain just fell out of my gaping mouth. i just press the top button on the wee camera.

i like the game with dafredo. my game was too easy.
Mal: Not sure, but he's a cheeky monkey with his follow up comment! wink

Start another one then! smile

That song is beutiful, but I can't get any mail sent out from home (there is an image that I want to show you), I'm not recieving now either. Mal
Gee Mal, I wish to f*%# I knew what you lot are talking about!! Mind you, my Lumix will only allow me to go to 60 secs anyway and only as low as ISO80. I actually think that what really happened, is that you locked the shutter release open, went for a fag and then thought, "oh s*#%, I forgot the camera!". So really, you just got lucky!! Seriously though Mal, superb shot and extremely well thought out. Many regards, Neil.
Mal: Basically Neil, you have rumbled me. I guess the exposure based on how long it takes to pour the coffee from my flask and drink it! If it works then great, if it does not, I go home and sulk! wink Mal

No I made a mistake actually with the Aries dates !!
so you should be born in May or June, as you didn't say anything for the April month I will go for June !!!
so last question of the day are you born in June 1966 ? smile
Mal: Yes. I feel very uncomfortable, now you are so close. I had better find a box for that wine! Mal

  • 29 Nov 2006, 16:16
no my friend don't prepare the wine, it was so unfair for you, I asked so many questions ! we should have put some rules like 10 questions !!! you're born a month before the victory of England in the world cup !
as I didn't find the right date :
1. Are you born between the 1st and the 5th
2. are you born between the 6th and the 11th
3. are you born between the 12 and the 14th
4. wild guess (not really wild anymore) June 1st
5. June 10th
Mal: I've enjoyed the game! I'll send you a picture of it then! Next game we will sort out some rules.

hi mal

i am glad you liked the songs.. i will think of something new to send to you.

no worries about the quiz. there is a better website out there - where you can compare your answers with other people - and no spam.. but i cant find it.

also, i was reading just now and fell asleep and had a dream that Ellie took the quiz and got 10/10 which was funny.

i was supposed to be doing research.. but the warm sweaters and loving blankets (combined with slight fluttery flurries outside) swooned me and i fell fast asleep.

i am reading about the highland settlers in cape breton in tthe 1700's to 1900's - possible very boring for normal folk. but i love it. talks about the genealogy and entomological aspects of gaelic alba nuadh.

anyhoo.. hope you get the email thing fixed. it probably me breaking it... i am going to send this to your email and a private sc comment.

why dont you make a gmail account? i thought one of your emails came from one. but i looked, and i must be mistaken.

talk to you later

do you msn?

Hello Mal, like you have not become it, but I can say to you that the result calls the attention powerfully. It seems as if the pillars were hung on the water, thanks to the light and the mist. Very, very good.
never know what s saltburn until now that i went to search net..
this is so cool..!
Very surreal. It looks like a computer generated model resting on a sheet of ice. Really cool.

This is the first of a couple in your archive I want to let you know I think is superb. It was the colour in the thumbnail that attracted me first, but on opening the full size shot it certainly has the wow factor.

Hats off for your staying power. I'd have set the ISO higher to reduce the time I was hangging about in the cold!
