photoblog image Soft on Saltwick

Soft on Saltwick

I normally post images in a theme but this week I am going to alternate from images that I am comfortable with to images that I find hard to capture. This was captured at Saltwick bay yesterday.

I am also taking the unusual step of posting two images per day (for the next 3 weeks). The above is the primary image but the link below is to another image which is not particularly special but means something to me personaly. Please feel free to comment upon both in the usual way but do so quickly because I will be removing the secondary image from public view after a few days but I will retain your comments, they will be much appreciated.

Perhaps the SA boys might be interested in the following.

I really love this picture, may be becayse it's not the usual thing you normally post, and it's still very good. The cloudy sky, the foggy rocks, the profile of the dark cliffs against the light bkgd...
Not everybody has the luxury to post two pics a day, so I say: if you can, why not?
Mal: Thank you Samira, these next 3 weeks are filled with seascapes like this and portraits. No more two images per day, I was being silly really. Mal
Very good pic Mal. I think the b/w effect definitely helps to enhance the image. Where's Saltwick
Mal: Hey Ogonna. Saltwick bay is half a mile south of Whitby on the north east coast. Mal

this reminds me of your post from early dec I think, I'll check your archives later. I like shots like this shame we don't have landsacpes around here.
Mal: Thank's J, you might get bored of these shots along with portraits over the next few weeks! Mal
I Like your long exposure seascapes. They have such an ethereal feel to them.

I know the light was craap when you took this but I feel a cheat to put a splash of luminosity on the surface of the sea would have lifted it a touch.
Mal: I've given your idea/tutorial a go Digi, this evening! Well, you are a clever old stick, it works nicely! Mal
Very nice shot. I love the misty feel around the rocks. Makes me want to curl up with a good book and a warm fire.
Mal: You're a real romantic then Elizabeth, you weave words into pictures! This is a quality I like. Thank you for spending time here. Mal

Happy New year Mal!
Mal: Hey Eni, lovely to see you back in the groove. wink All the best. Mal
Not sure if its the mist or the long exposure that gives the feel of mist - this shot looks so smooth. Great shot.
Mal: You are the first to spot it Thomas. I had major problems with the mist off the breaking waves causing natural blur over the whole image. Mal

Lovely effect of the long exposure. Like clouds in stead of sea. Great post.
Mal: Thank you Louis. All the best. Mal

lots of little pockets of mystery. Also looks very chilly as i sit in front of a fan trying to keep cool. beautiful stuff
Mal: Stop rubbing it in Neal! As we in the UK pump out so much pollutant to burn a bigger hole over Aus with our fires on full blast! wink Mal
This image is the one that you say that you took being in a caravan by an accident? …
Perfect scene for Poldark or El Conde de Montecristo.
Brilliant, Mal.
Mal: Many many thanks Jose. All the best. Mal

great shot Mal. Makes me want to go to the beach right away and try some long exposure shots... Looks like the humps of Loch Ness's lost cousin lurking near the beach smile
Mal: So! Why are you not out there and posting on Shutter? wink Nessie will turn up! Mal
Nice to see you made it outside Mal - excellent work smile
Mal: About time to! Iwas going stir crazy. Mal
I am booking my lessons in advance of coming to the U.K.!! Knowing you , you will probably be on a plane to Capetown whilst I am flying to Heathrow! great shot Mal. 'nuff said. Many regards, Neil.
Mal: I'll be here awaiting your flight Bugman! Mal
I like the conversion to BW. Good composition, beautiful rocks in the foreground, lovely soft sky. And I feel the urge to go out and shot long exposure pics - thank you :o)
Mal: It is easy Aksel. Tripod, camera, beach that's all you need. Mal

I like the way Black Nab is black against the more subtle greys elsewhere. These long exposures of your work so well
Mal: Thank you Paul. All the best. Mal
It seems like "time stood still" for you; there are times when I stop to experience something incredibly beautiful, and I lose all sense of time...Have I been there a minute, or an hour? this feels like that kind of experience.
Nice shot once again, Mal. These long exposure sea shots of yours are classy! Light & contrast are spot on!
Your shots like this, Mal, take my breath away. What else is there to say?!

The long exposure has enhanced the sea and the cloud movement. Nice composition in that there's a "walkway" through the foreground rocks to the dominating presence of Black Nab. Just my sort of cuppa!
Mal: Oh rub it in why don't you! It's cold and misserable up North David! Bring your best fleece in April, You'll need it. Mal

It's got the ingredients but doesn't work for me. Could just be the tones making it a little flat.

Th horizon looks a degree off being horizontal which has caught my eye, either that or its a very very strong neap tide.
