A few of you probably know that I want to do more people images. So the solution is very simple take the camera into the pub!

Mal what are you doing? ...You know that I like this kind of pic...so much! sooo much!!!
Mal: I think if we were in the same place Nicola, we would end up taking exactly the same photograph, we like the same things. Mal

Superb capture, Mal. Is there anything you can't do you clever b*****d...smile
Mal: Thank you Dave. I've noted recently that several pints steadies my hand! So I take picures in pubs now! wink Mal
nice....love the blk n white and the silhouette of the guys face behind
Mal: Thank you Dami. All the best. Mal
Hiya Mal and good morning.Compositionally a great photo, subject matter is super and the use of DOF also spot on. My only slight concern is the blemishes on Lisa's skin, which I think does need to be dealt with to make the photo just that touch better and lift it to excellent. So you lazy git, get that blemish airbrush working!!LOL
Many kind regards, Neil.
Mal: Get some sleep you Numpty!! wink Mal
Take a look at Carl's blog this morning and see if you agree with what I have written. I was waiting for the right time and took the gap when he gave me the opportunity.

The highlights, focus, lighting are all soft and perfect. She looks extremely elegant and sumptuous. Although Neil would like to break out the airbrush, I feel that au naturale is the way to go. NO ONE has perfect skin. Of course, there are times when this philosophy won't work. Here, I don't think there's a problem. I like for women to look "real" in photographs. I like this photo just the way it is. (I am an ameteur, so take it for what it's worth. smile )
Mal: Clint, you and I are of one mind here. I hate air brushed plastic shiny skin and will never produce a portrait image that way! With this image I was trying to represent the scene as I saw it at that time and keep it soft and natural (although the soft bit was me being slightly tipsey at the time). Thank you for seeing exactly what I was trying to portray. Mal
your people images are coming along very nicely. i like the dof and b&w.
Mal: Thank you Speedy, I bet you can't do 10k in 35 mins in snow shoes!! wink Mal
great idea with the two faces.

A really beautiful shot. This is right on so many levels.
I imagine the bloke was saying - 'Hey, Lisa. stick your tongue in, the man with the camera is at it again..'
Mal: You are so close to the truth that you would not believe SL! mal
very good composition Gringo Mal !!!! so was I right about the light yesterday, was it Dwarf?
Mal: Spot on mate! Dwarves drinking Chateau Neuf with loads of candles! wink Mal
Mal, I really like this shot but I'm not sure about the crop/composition. I think I'd love to see some more dark space on the left so creating a 16:9 or 2:1.

Brilliant though.
Mal: Hey Jide, yes I take your point about the crop and balance and you are correct, I should have thought about it slightly more.

But here is my rant for the night!! I have started a discussion in the forums about this very issue. Most images on shutter are landscape so why the bloody hell are they the smallest images that you get on the screen? Shutter get this sorted cos i'm well annoyed! this rubbish system of always having the image the same width is grinding me down. If I post a 2.1 image, I get a real great screen filler image but if I post the best damn landscape image i've ever taken, I get some pathetic postage stamp!!!

I, too, like this just the way it is, Mal, but I'm also an amateur. I do know what I like, however, and what I don't like, especially when it comes to people's faces. I do NOT like the overly-processed, model approach I have seen. This pic is actually very refreshing to me. Simple, soft, natural, innocent. I hope you continue in this line.
Mal: Oh Ginnie, you are so right! And have identified exactly what I was trying to say with the image. I tried very hard to stay loyal to the conditions at the time and portray a scence of innocense in the image.

Thank you for seeing what I was trying to say. Mal

How strange.... I haven't logged on to your site for a while so imagine my shock today to find myself looking at myself.

Such an angelic look, you've done a good job with the PS to erase the dirty tramp look I normally sport - thank you x
Mal: Hey Tramp! What do you mean by not logging on at least 20 times per day! I shall give you a severe talking to! wink Mal x

Well composed and nice subject and good balance. Dof is fine - so it passes muster and you get the gold medal. I noticed something about blemishes and also noticed the time that Neil commented - i hope he gets some sleep soon smile
Mal: I noted that to Louis, so I went steady on him! wink Mal

Great work Mal. Beautiful portrait and a lovely shot of your friend Lisa. You have captured a really nice moment. Now when you are you going to post shots of your other drier friends that leave comments from time to time or is that one of them in the shadows.
Mal: Great call Neal! I don't have any images of a few that I would like to humiliate! I'll work on that one. Mal

Mal: Thank you. Mal
like the lighting, theres a lovely soft touch to her face but what i like most is the woman in the background...be careful, ur setting the bar waaay too high for urself...
Mal: I can limbo under the belly of a snake Master! That's how low my bar is! Thank you. older & older
This is a beautiful picture of woman. You have caught the tenderness and the innocence of the girl. I like much this instantaneous one.
Mal: You have identified exactly what I was trying to say Jose. Thankyou. Mal

Mal, I cannot believe Lisa lets you takes photos of her I only get one on pain of death!! I think you have captured her beautifully, I thought the first photo was brilliant but I think I like this second one more it seems softer but more intriguing ( if you know whatI mean).
I am now a regular on your site and think your pictures are great, but obviously I am not a pro.
Look forward to seeing you sometime in York!

Talk about blemishes - you should see the side of her face that I can!! Two points of concern for me an they are: 1) What's with the "older" and, most importantly, 2)"Woman"? I am truly gutted.

Mal: Got to say mate, she is a right minger! And certainly not innocent!

Well, you are old! And an old fisher woman at that! So just learn your place in life! wink Mal

Mal, this is beautiful. It really is.

Extra comments .. she's not taking much notice of the chap to her right who's talking to her, she looks almost as if she's in a dream, thinking of something, or somebody, much nicer.

What blemishes?
Mal: Hey El

You are very perceptive! I nearly titled the image "LIM" Which stood simply for "Lisa Ignoring Mike". All the best. Mal
her face really stands out in the frame. this is a winner in every way.
