At least he's got his reflectionwink I like the simple composition it gives impact I think.

For many bankers right now there is no tomorrow in prospect.

Surfers, though, are into more serious business...
It could be said ''take one step at a time and reflect on what happens.'' (sorry it's so corny)

Great picture, great tones, the reflection is just beautiful.
Maybe he needed this time alone to figure out some issues about life in general, fighting the waves could be very soulful.

nice one, the isolation and the desolate feel make it for me.

Surfer and surf - a perfect but melancholy combination.
Seen very well, Badly. The man becomes small by the magnitude of the beach!
Perhaps he is enjoying the solitude, away from the rush and bustle and idiot politicians. Alone on a beach, what could be better?

Another beautiful shot Mal! Any chance I could get a high res copy to be a new desktop image? It is one of those stunning shots I am sure I wouldn't get sick of.
And there is always a bigger wave. Nice feeling here.
Nice one Mal ,where is this.

And he's probably quite content to be alone with nature in this way. Beautiful shot.

Nice one Mal. The composition really makes this. Great use of space.
I pondered a while as to whether the reflection was actually a bad thing, but I think it adds more than it detracts.

An interesting perspective (to look down and not to be too close to the water, so that we don't get wet feet!)- I very like to see the breakers gently, slowly run out, the last foam before the standstill; for hours I could look at these breakers at the beach because of their calming unison- sounds and all patterns of the landing breakers look so different! The surfer (nice water- reflection!) seems to stand and or to stop -after hard working or fighting with the waves -in front of a new decision, perhaps on a turning-point? I have not the feel that he is alone (in the meaning: alleen, maar niet eenzaam/ allein, aber nicht einsam), rather an optimistic feeling, for the sea and the waves and his surfboard may be his friends (LOL at VZ),too, he seems to be in harmony with the nature -although he could be longing for quite quite more..., perhaps that was your thought as you chose this title! Therefore I wish him a good day tomorrow, perhaps then the big luck or some ineffable happiness will touch him and he goes forwards...! Every day is a new chance- a saying we can often hear, and it could be right!

Great composition and feel to this one Mal. Not quite a minimalistic shot, as it does not have that same feel of starkness. Nice to see the human factor in one of your pieces, it adds so much to the scene.
Really cool stuff mal

I like this, amazing how clear that reflection is.

I don't usually get even vaguely 'picky' with your pictures, but I do think that teeny bit of surf at the bottom would be best removed. Just a teeny crop wink
So simple yet so striking, another superb photo
Ah, very good reflection shot Mal. Nice crop, natural looking figure. The water over the sand eliminates footprints giving a pristine feel to the scene.

Excellent composition... a very clear subject and supporting subjects while keeping it simple and uncluttered.
The reflection is a nice bonus!

105mm? Are you playing with a 24-105L?

Mal, your work is really fantastic. A great shot which has resulted in many comments. I can't add anymore to that which has been written already. Great shot, nice sense of scale.
1 thing I will mention is that ISO 50 on canons is only simulated and doesn't actually result in greater quality and lower noise in the same way that iso 100 to 200 does.
Very Nice One. I like photographs with no horizon, and yet we can feel the light and reflection of the unseen sky. Was this a scene that you knew was there and just had to sit and wait for the conditions and subjects to arrive, or was it spontaneous?

If somebody asks you: "why would you like to take a stroll at the beach?" - Just show him this photo!

Lonely, yes. But sometime one needs that type of lonelyness for catching a good breath and finding back to oneself.

Great photo, as usual! Perfect use of empty space for telling the story.
Many comments and well deserved: this is a powerful photo!
