Elgol

Basically the same image as Tuesdays but taken further along the boulder beach at Elgol.

I have returned to this single location more than any other in Scotland over the past 28 years, partly for sentimental childhood reasons but moreover for photographic ones. My father, who was heavily into photography, took many images here and I am no different. Due to the heavy tides at Elgol, there are a number of rock formations that only appear at certain times and timing the dawn rise to the tides and getting the right weather conditions is simply in the lap of the photographic gods and a bit of planning.

I have lost count of the number of images that I have of this very stand point both film and digital but my fav ones were taken with the x-pan camera but that format does not look good in Sutter at all. I have several versions of many different raw files processed in different ways. This version is probably the closest to the conditions at the time and was taken in April.

This image has some sentimental clap-trap attached to it but please, please do not hesitate to leave silly, ridiculous, funny comments! I enjoy them all.

I love the fact that you are sharing a photo that represents what must have been a defining moment or at least a source of very fond memories. At the moment we are trying to create similar experiences for our youngsters similar to the ones that we shared with our parents when we were young. Beautiful shot Mal and thanks for sharing it with us. silly comments maybe later when the creativity bird comes back

Wow. That's gorgeous. Would you mind sending me a copy of it in a higher size? I would love to use it as my desktop image. It's just stunning.

I don't understand how one can think of silly comments with such magnificant work.
Unless you put the name of a wintermint gum and sell it as an advert I can't see how it could be corrupted =P

Hey, Malster, you've really got gnarly and rugged down to a tee. Really love the detail in the rocks on the right, and the sky looks like the sort of sky you see on a walk and really cack yourself as you just know in 10 mins you're going to be a human sponge.
By the way, I was on the tube on Tuesday, and while reading the ads on the roof, there was one titled 'visit grarly and rugged Scotland' with a link to your site wink

You have done this so well, that the colour has almost returned to the landscape. When i first look at it for a moment i thought there was colour in the sun blotches on the far mountains. A thing of beauty, this effort.

The sheeplover asks about conception - how would you know since you were not there. Or is this like fatherhood - you have to take your mother's word for it.

Hey Mal(content), this is bloody well obscenely beautiful and you have no right to post this and make everybody elses' pictures look crap!! Well it's all there isn't it? I can see why you prefer this one to the other version. It's even better, I think, if that's possible. It brings to mind my favorite childhood books of the Bronte sisters; your photographs of this place could illustrate those stories perfectly. Thanks again for the inspiration.

By the way, did you use a filter for this one?

That's just beautiful. It really works in B&W. I especially like that the picture is so "full", with a clearly defined fore-, middle- and background (mountains/clouds). Will certainly look great as a huge print on the wall.

Sorry, can't think of any funny or silly comments right now. But I could start thinking of Ansel Adams... Thanks for sharing!

That is a stunning shot. Not only do you get the misty water and the foreground rocks but that awesome backdrop. Great shot.
What can I say.... One of the most beautiful shots in your blog. Absolutely loved it.
