Mal, love this shot, but don't understand your explanation of what you did. Did you sratch and blast the filter in Photoshop?
Lol, do we belong to an almost lost generation Mal? Life before Photoshop, those were the days!
Love the context.
Wicked work Mal!
p.s. vaseline with camera equipment??? sounds a bit seedy buddy boy...what do you recommend for cleaning up afterwards?
This reminds me of ice-skating days at the rink while it was snowing, Mal, when I was in high school. Probably not what you had in mind!
This is so excellent, Mal. Love it!
You forgot to add "talent" to that list of yours
Thank you for telling us how to do... I do like it !
Nice work Mal, I don't understand the scratch and bead part. She looks quite alone
I can't keep saying how good these are...
Cracking image and I also see skaters.
Never mind the filters - it still needs the eye to see a great shot like this. The laconic figure with the cigarette is wonderful, balanced perfectly by the retreating figures and the curveof the wall. First class mate.
This is an original "Mal". I really like it.
Sweet work as usual
Well done. This effect well points the truth... passers by just pass, just cross. And we never meet each other.
Excellent as always and thanks for the 'how to'. My first thought was that this was at a skating rink. Not that I can have a lot of experience of that here is SA
The moment that has passed by cannot be recovered, that is why the undo button is such a great invention.
Quality shot - really unusual & very effective result.
Superbe
yes, their lives passing mine... I recognize the feeling...
Nice shot Mal.
brilliant image, mal...and, an inspired title.
i think it is an unusual shot from you...i don't recall you make a point of having 3 parties...and so you have made it a mystery...is "mine" mal or the gal...first time I lookedat it I thought it was the gal, but now I think it is mal. Of course...if none of those in the image are actually engaged with you, then their lives are as imaginary as their images...you [and your adoring SC public] are therefore free to imagine any kind of life for them. I like that...very entertaining!
Thoughtful - and certainly a real keeper. And again a proof, that a good title really shows the photographers intention and lifts the whole work to another level.
And... no PS-wizardry, but real handcraft. I was a bit surprised on how many comments THAT provoked... ;-)
I must make time to experiment more...darn work keeps getting in the way though!!!
Great picture. Excellent PP.
This one has a strong story line and it looks phenomenal!
Fine work Mal.
Old skool tekniques still work then
Very creative and succesful idea !!
A timeless capture. Reminds me of a scene from XANADU (Oliver Newton John)
Do you have a special filter that's scratched? Never tried Vaseline - I don't think I'd fancy cleaning it up but the effect is good.
Ingrid
Super funky, cutting edge, avant garde as usual. You really must try and push yourself!!! All the best, Dave.
makes me want to dream more. ~S.
there is a song to that effect...Album cover material
Love the creativity here, the shot is good, it's just not my cup of tea....a little bit to soft for my liking mal, but that is my problem, and not the pic
Lighttastic.
Very interesting shot- stunning how well the vaseline works without distracting. Any chance I could get a high res copy to use for a desktop background? It's simply gorgeous and I'd love to see it every day
Wonderful light play!
really excellent mal! you are a master...i have heard of vaseline on lenses before but never seen a shot with it...this is a great effect
Very interesting indeed
It does not matter since it is done! This, only can be yours, Badly Another great pic!
Stunning
I may not understand all of your explanation but I understand this: Wow, amazing, love it Mal
Brilliant work !
amazing what you thought of to come up with this shot...simply excellent!
when I grow up, I want to shoot like this
impressive!..
Hi Malcolm... just to let you konw that you were designed to be chief editor on my n°3 fake cover... hope you won't miss it. It will be published next monday. Since then, hzve a great week-end.
Another iconic 'mal' image. So creative.
it's like you're in a photogrphy twilight zone man!
this comment is based on all your work not just this one please keep the stuff coming buddie...you've got a fan
I enjoy looking at my desktop so much more now that it's being graced with this image
Very nice work mal! Perfekt with that light!!!
its that vaseling again...beautiful light streaks...
Love the theme of life passing by. Very very nice!
une vision poétique et un epu désespérée! le monde est-il si noir et les autres de simples ombres?
Wow, that's a piece of art! A shot that makes me think, beautifully sad. Love it!
Simply excellent, Mal! Great effect and beautiful work!
just beautiful! simple as that!
Simply fantastic Mal.
It gives me the impression that the girl sitting on her own by the waterfront puffing away is looking at the couple & the buggy, thinking "I wish I had a soul-mate. I wish I had child". Maybe I read too much into these! lol. Not being up on my filters as much as I should be, I googled "Scratched and bead blasted filter" and oddly enough this post came up #1. Quite how you bead blast a filter is beyond me. You're trail blazing again Mal
Perfect example of reflection. A little like REM's Everbody Hurts. (of which the aussies who made the movie "The Castle" once did a spoof of that song. in one particularly reflective moment in that filmclip they had someone in deep contemplation with a thought bubble above their head thinking 'mmmm shoes with zips'). wonderful mood or shoes with zips shot.
Heh good to see the "old school" meeting the new digital age with the use of this kind of filtering and its great.
As mentioned above the lone figure is crucial to me as it does set the tone for all of the shot, well spotted Mal |
